With its integrated computer, the SmartBox Gaius-S2™ offers RAM options of 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB DDR4 and features the powerful Intel Celeron N5105 processor with 4 cores at 2.90GHz, making this device the perfect solution for your needs. Its 6 USB ports and 7 power outputs are strategically configured to connect up to 5 devices and 2 dew heaters.

You can connect to this device via WiFi direct and LAN, providing high-quality remote access from any device, whether it's a tablet, smartphone, or laptop. Additionally, you can view real-time atmospheric conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and dew point. Don’t miss any important details! You can also monitor energy consumption and the voltage supplied by the power source, whether it's a battery or a 220VAC to 12VDC transformer.

Ready for astrophotography, the SmartBox Gaius-S2™ comes with Windows 11 Pro and pre-installed software like N.I.N.A, ASCOM, EQMOD, ASCOM drivers for RB Focus, PHD2, ASTAP, Plate Solve 2, and Stellarium. All ASCOM outputs and drivers are preconfigured, so you simply need to connect your equipment and start capturing images of the night sky. Both on the OLED screen and in the mentioned software, you can view real-time data from the device, showing environmental conditions and power supply status.

We have improved connectivity by incorporating a next-generation WiFi 6 card and a dual-band antenna. This ensures optimal connection speed even when you move away from the equipment. We aim to offer you the best possible experience in all situations.

The SmartBox Gaius-S2™ is compatible with observatory control programs and allows you to remotely turn the equipment on and off, as well as configure dew heaters or fans automatically. You can control it from any software that supports the ASCOM Switch Box, such as N.I.N.A or Voyager. Additionally, you can program the equipment to automatically shut down at the end of the session, so you don't have to worry about leaving the camera or mount on all night.

The automatic dew heater controller is a standout feature of the SmartBox Gaius-S2™. Thanks to the included temperature and humidity sensors, the device has the necessary data to calculate the dew point. This allows you to program the control software to turn on the dew heaters only when they are really needed, avoiding unnecessary power consumption and unwanted currents in the OTA.

Small, compact, lightweight, and low consumption, the new SmartBox Gaius-S2™ has been designed with your astrophotography needs in mind. Don’t worry about space or extra weight on your equipment. Weighing just 250 grams and with dimensions of 12cm x 8.5cm x 3.2cm, this device fits into any setup. Additionally, its energy consumption of only 0.8Ah ensures efficient and long-lasting performance.

    Gaius is top

Gaius is an extremely well built and complete equipment. Easy to work with and with all the functionalities an astrophotographer needs. The customer care is also very good, we can always count on a quick answer from Reinaldo. I am very happy with the Gaius!

    Excellent device

I have bought the RB Focus Gaius-S2 from a reseller here in the Netherlands, from Ganymedes.

My impression is that its very well build, functions right out of the box, got it up-and-running within a couple of hours, with no prior NINA experience whatsoever (I am used to ASIAIR).

However, because of this very positive experience, I am seriously thinking of replacing NINA with RB Focus Gaius-S2 for all my rigs.

One remark: Please put in a selector to add a power adapter. XT30 is not common.

Has anyone tried to use the the SD card slot to add additional storage? I tried to use one and have NINA save my images to it directly but the write speed is super slow (much slower than it should be for the speed of the SD card). However, when I transfer images from the SSD to the SD card it goes a normal speed. Was hoping this would be an easy way to increase storage but the write speed with NINA is not ideal.

Is it possible to set the bios to boot up the gaius s2 on connection to power rather than having to press the button? I would like to be able to power up the gaius remotely.

Yes, this is how I currently run my unit.

my only concern is with download off full frame cameras? The basic eagle cannot handle them, and the more expensive ones are needed.

I want this product!!! but i have the 6200mm

I use the full frame Altair 24CFX with it all the time, having previously done so with the older mark 1 Gaius. That’s 24MP rather than 60-ish. I have maximum memory on my S2 and reckon it will be OK.

How do you attach it to the scope. Cuiv shows a 3D printed plate that can attach to the mount and said it came with the Gaius S2. I didn't get one. Can I buy one?

On the top of the website, you click on "More" and "Accessories". Then, you will find the "Support Base for Gaius".

Really? That’s it? No other way of connecting? No mounting points at the bottom of the device?

I don't if it was a mistake, but my order didn't come with a power cord - only the XT30 adaptor. I don't remember seeing (perhaps I might have overlooked it) a mention that I would need a separate AC/DC adaptor. If I overlooked it, that's my own fault. I've since placed an order for the separately available power supply, but didn't get it placed before the company's suspended operations period so will have to wait longer to use it. Definitely not usable immediately out of the box or as described in the description, "simply need to connect your computer and go out and capture images".

Might also help to know that DewControl now make cigarette DC (or other DC) to XT30 cables in a length of your choice. Very handy!

Agreed, I was surprised that they didn't include a DC to XT30 adapter, only the actual XT30 connector that you would use to solder your own cable together. At a minimum a DC to XT30 adapter cable should be included. I think it's fair to not include a power supply (though it should be made very clear one is not included and will be required) because most folks should already have one to power the rest of their gear. Any 12V 10A DC power supply with the right connector from Amazon or similar should work fine, which is what I use.

Is the RAM and HD upgradable? And does anyone know what kind of RAM is installed?

Not sure about RAM, but I emailed support to ask about the SSD, and was told it can be upgraded but will void the warranty if you open the box (has a tamper evident sticker).

How does this pc do with large files? My main camera creates 52MB subs, and I sometimes do 30s or 60s subs, so a lot of data being written.

If you opt for the 1TB M.2 drive option, you'll be able to fit around 19,000 images at 52MB each

My subs are about the same size and it doesn't have an issue. Storage wise, I opted for the smaller size (128GB) and just have it remote copy to a google drive but I can get a fair number of nights worth of subs before I need to clean it out. In hindsight I probably should have gotten at least 256GB because I didn't consider that the OS and all of the other programs would consume the majority of that 128GB. As a result my working image storage is about 50GB or so.
